Created by Jackie De Burca, the author of Salvador Dalí at Home, Travel Inspires is a ground-breaking travel blog: the only travel blog for all the family. Through its approach the blog aims to promote cross-cultural appreciation, sustainability and meaningful family experiences.
Travel Inspires creates media for children to entice and educate them about destinations
Inspired by her work on the Salvador Dalí book and her own life experiences, Jackie De Burca felt that it would benefit both sustainability and cross-cultural understanding to have a travel blog that is accessible to children. Travel Inspires incorporates free, fun colouring pages that include a short story about the destination featured.
For example, in the feature Silver Coast Portugal, the Colour & Learn colouring page is about postcard pretty Peniche, which has a special geology. In fact, in 2006, it was confirmed that the bone of a dinosaur found there was that of a Duriatitan humerocristatus. Experts revealed that up until this discovery it was thought that this particular type of dinosaur could only be found in England. These findings suggest a very ancient possible link between England and Portugal.
Up to now, the most developed example of this concept is the Tarragona travel guide page. Tarragona has a five colouring pages, featuring important aspects of the city's history and culture, such as the animals' blessing day, Human Castles and its UNESCO World Heritage status.
Tarragona also has an adapted legend for children, along with other sections such as Tarragona: 9 cool places to take your parents, 14 facts about the Roman lifestyle and a local recipe that the family can make before and after going to Tarragona.

An Idyllic Olive Oil Route in Western Granada
Have you had that feeling of not having quite left a place behind? That sensation that when you have returned to wherever you call home, that somehow that place you visited has made a mark in your heart and perhaps your cell memory?
If you think about it, apart from the effect that visiting a new environment has on your emotions and senses, this feeling could be connected to science.
The first law of thermodynamics, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another. So in a way you may absorb some energy of the place.
In fact there have been articles about how travel can benefit your mental health. Travel increases creativity, makes you a more open person, boosts happiness, relieves stress and can even help improve relationships.
What happens to you on a psychological level when you travel?
Travelling to new environments triggers different brain reactions. Brains are wired to be sensitive to change, therefore travel affects your brain’s neuroplasticity – how your brain is wired.
Your brain reacts and adapts to take in the influence of these new experiences and environments. This brain reaction leads to heightened creativity.
