Happy childhood memories are made in those special moments, often in places that we carry in our hearts as we grow older. Family holidays can be the best opportunities during the busy year to bond with your children and to create those amazing memories that stay with them for life.

This blog is written by me, Jackie De Burca, author of Salvador Dalí at Home - along with lots of other great bloggers, tour guides and local experts. I have lived in Spain since 2003.

An Idyllic Olive Oil Route in Western Granada
Have you had that feeling of not having quite left a place behind? That sensation that when you have returned to wherever you call home, that somehow that place you visited has made a mark in your heart and perhaps your cell memory?
If you think about it, apart from the effect that visiting a new environment has on your emotions and senses, this feeling could be connected to science.
The first law of thermodynamics, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another. So in a way you may absorb some energy of the place.
In fact there have been articles about how travel can benefit your mental health. Travel increases creativity, makes you a more open person, boosts happiness, relieves stress and can even help improve relationships.
What happens to you on a psychological level when you travel?
Travelling to new environments triggers different brain reactions. Brains are wired to be sensitive to change, therefore travel affects your brain’s neuroplasticity – how your brain is wired.
Your brain reacts and adapts to take in the influence of these new experiences and environments. This brain reaction leads to heightened creativity.
